Migrant Nepali women are more exploited
As the number of women migrant workers are increasing for foreign jobs, the number of exploitation cases and Violence Against Women(VAW) cases are also increasing tremendously. As per the report National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) states thousands of Nepali women are being trafficked every year as sex workers and bonded labourers, where China and South Korea are emerging as new destinations. These women are forced to sex or work slavery with no rights and no options of return. Most of the victims come from a background of poverty and broken families with no education where they have no way of return.
Records shows that around 20,000 Nepalis women were trafficked in the two fiscal years ending mid-July 2015, a number swollen by the disruption caused by earthquakes in April and May last year.
Some of the preliminary studies say that India remains the biggest destination country, but rising numbers of women and girls are also being trafficked to China and South Korea.
Last year's earthquakes in Nepal, which caused widespread damage and displaced millions, greatly increased the vulnerability of women and children, In the three months after the quakes, 1,233 women and children were reported missing, and the risk of their being trafficked increased by an estimated 15 to 20 percent.
