Cases of VAW in rise in Western Nepal


The cases of Violence against women has grown significantly, according to  statistics collected by  organisations working in the field of women and children’s rights there has been a significant rise in recent times.

According to INSEC, Kaski, Tanahun, Gulmi, Syangja, Kapilvastu and Baglung saw one death each, two deaths each in Arghakhanchi, Parbat and Gorkha and three in Nawalparasi.
Similarly out of the total 494 cases that were reported in 2014,  308 have been reported for domestic violence including 60 of polygamy, 10 of witchcraft, 36 of trafficking, 48 of rape, 25 of attempted rape and seven of sexual harassment.

Likewise, 2 girls were murdered whereas three minors were exploited as labourers and 19 were traded. One case of child marriage, 109 of rape, six of physical assault in schools and 44 of sexual abuse were reported in 2014. The total number of minor victims in 2013 was 188.
