Durbarmarg Gang Rape case takes new turn


The DurbarMarg gang Rape case takes new turn with the new investigation launched by the NHRC. In a recent press statement, spokesperson of NHRC Mohna Anasri  said that the probe committee had started investigation to create better understanding of the case. The NHRC also said that its attention was drawn to such cases where victims are denied justice due to the lack of governance and carelessness shown by authority. In such cases  Human rights violation are major issues. 

On January 25, a woman who was partying with her friends in Dubarmarg  was gang raped at hotel landmark by four men.  The woman had claimed that she had been gang-raped  by four persons, including her alleged drunken boyfriend. On Friday, when she went to the Durbarmarg Police station the  on duty officer did not register her case. It has been reported that DSP Tilak Bharati and Inspector Laxman Singh Thakuri from the Metropolitan Police Circle Durbarmarg had pressured  the girl to settle the case with the perpetrators instead of registering her complaint.

On Tuesday, the Nepal Police Headquarters had summoned the two police officers from Durbarmarg station who had refused to register the victim’s complaint.

Following wide-spread criticism, the Nepal Police Headquarters had summoned the two officers and formed a team led by Superintendent of Police Ram Dutta Joshi to investigate into the case.
