On February 22 Sangita Magar and Sima Basnet two teenagers were attacked with acid on their faces by an unidentified group of people while studying at a tuition center in Jhochhen, Basnatapur.
Magar who was the target has severed acid burn bruises and is admitted at KMC Hospital while Basnet is admitted to Bir Hospital.

Apart from that a major publication ekantipur an online wing of the prestigious Kantipur Publication published, “Nepal’s legal system has no specific provision for acid attacks, however. Culprits, if arrested, are booked under culpable homicide which carries a fine of up to Rs 2,000 and a maximum sentence of four months.”

This statement has provoked the public’s sentiment whereas Nepal’s legal system “Muluki Ain” under chapter 10 section 16 clearly states, a person who conspires to kill a person or causes other person to kill a person shall be liable to the punishment of imprisonment for a term ranging from Ten years to Fifteen years in cases where such a victim has been killed, and to the punishment of imprisonment for a term ranging from Five years to Twelve years in cases where the victim has not been killed.

Due to complication of the case there has been many issues raised about the legal provision and legal remedies available. No matter what VAW is an issue which needs proper monitoring mechanism where woman security and respect is utmost priority of any society? If a woman does not feel secure within the society then there is no point of having any rules and regulation.
