Women fighting for existence in Nepal: Badi the fight for struggle
A 2 days conference marking the fourth national conference of Badi women has begun in Ghorahi in Dang district. The conference is participated by Badi women participating from more than 15 districts.
Organized by the National Badi Women Rights Struggle Committee and Dalit Women Unity Centre, Dang, the conference would focus on the previous agreements on safe guarding the identity of Badi women and a road map of future actions.
Wiki says "Badi remain the lowest ranking untouchable caste in western Nepal. The rules of orthodox Hinduism dictate that members of the higher castes (Braham, Chetri, or Thakuri) cannot allow the Badi into their houses, accept water or food from them, use the same village pump, or even brush against them; although higher caste men are allowed to have sex with Badi prostitutes."
During the conference the Badi women expressed their sadness over lack of carelessness shown towards them and how the government is ignoring their rights and development.
